FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 30:1-10, 18-19 (KJV)
David was a commander, well loved and respected by followers. But one day, something happened. While they were away, the Amalekites invaded their camp. They captured their wives and children, burnt down their camp and went away with all their possessions. When David and his men came back and saw the scenario, they were so devastated that they wept until they no longer had strength to weep. All of a sudden, his hitherto loving and obedient followers; having lost their wives and children, turned against him and were battle-ready to stone him to death.
However, rather than reacting to the negative attitudes of his followers, David was proactive. He encouraged himself in the Lord and sought the mind of God on what to do. God told him expressly to pursue the enemies, that he would overtake them and recover all that they had stolen. And true to God’s Word, that was exactly what happened.
Beloved, when trouble comes, when the storms of life arise, when the tides turn contrary, when supposed friends suddenly become enemies, in times of illness, loss, grief, etc., what would you do?
Take a cue from David. There were not many encouragers out there. The men that were supposed to encourage him were the ones that conspired to kill him. Therefore, like David, you need to be your No. 1 fan. Cultivate the art of encouraging yourself in the Lord. Then take the matter to God in prayer and seek His mind on the way forward.
He answered David, He will surely answer you. He says in Psalm 50:15, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify Me.”
