Praise: Here I Am to Worship (Min. Tim Hughes)
Scripture: Matthew 5:13-16
You are the salt of the earth; You are the light of the world.
In John 4:24, Jesus says to the religious woman: God is Spirit and those who worship the Lord Must worship him in spirit and in truth.
After preaching the word of God and applying the word of God as described in Matthew 4:23-25
Jesus teaches his disciples by letting them know that they are the salt of this earth and the light of this word. In other words what he did in Matthew 4:23-25, they can surely do the same.
Jesus uses the image of the salt and the light to make the disciples understand that they must be the Solution Provider for this world.
Without salt food seems boring. With too much salt food is uneatable and causes disease. Salt has many other benefits in the body.
Without light we are lost in the dark. With too much light we can be consumed. Light benefits in human daily life are countless.
One needs light to know which quantity of salt to apply in the food or any other mixture. Jesus says: he is the light. As he is, as we are. John 8:12.
Salt and light are a necessity in daily Human life. Knowing how to balance salt or light requires an art, the art from the Master himself: spending time with Jesus.
Salt and Light bring solutions to Human life. Let us read one more time Matthew 4:23 and then Matthew 5:1-2.
Jesus is telling us, his disciples, that we are Solution for humanity.
Questions:
Do we believe Jesus' affirmation here?
Do we believe ourselves as a solution provider for ourselves, for our family, for our community, for our nation and for humanity?
Are we Jesus's disciples?
