Topic: A LESSON ON TAX
Content:
Matt 17:24-27 (Written by Matthew maybe because he loves tax and financial topics)
1. Jesus atoning work: Tax was used to maintain the tabernacle. Peter assumed yes Jesus payed paxes.. Jesus asked Peter a question before Peter even brought up the encounter to him.. Jesus was trying to show he is the son of God and the temple belongs to God. Remember Jesus was about ‘his’ business in the temple of the Lord.
Attornment: To forgive, cover up, cleanse, pardon.
Question to ponder: What was Jesus state in this? He was perfect with no sin - he was the tax that was paid for our sins and that’s why we take the communion to remember his blood shed for our sins on the cross.
Jesus has paid with his blood for our sins not same coins or anything. John 3:3, Romans 6:23 — All we need to be saved for salvation — all we need is believe in that sacrifice of his blood on that cross. 2 Corinthians 5:17 __ THE QUESTION: Are you in him? You may be a good person BUT it doesn’t get you to heaven.
2. Jesus brings freedom to serve others — that we may not cause offense — JESUS laid down his ego. He didn’t have to pay it—But he laid it down so that he might not cause offense— What was he showing with this? It shows that our freedom is really laying down our rights to serve others. Freedom is yes the ability to do whatever we want (free will) but what we do is not always right. 2 Corinthians 13-18. Romans 6:1-4, John 8:31-32 This freedom makes us to do the right thing. As Paul will always say: why do I do what I do? But one thing is God’s love is always sufficient for us. Romans 14:13 -23
Discipleship is not about exerting our rights but laying it down. How are you using your freedom today?
