 *Jonah 1:1-17*

Have you ever heard of cases where due to severe weather, passenger aircrafts are unable to land? Two interesting ones I read about:

1. Flew for four hours and had to turn around to fly four hours back to where it came from!

2. Made it to the destination and flew in a holding pattern for some time, before returning to the city it came from; five and a half hours of futility!

There are times when we as men, have knowingly or unknowingly resisted God's guidance, attempting to chart our own course but end up going in a circle, only to return to where we originally left off!

Jonah's journey in the Bible is an example of how futile escaping our divine calling can be and the results of trying to flee from God's will.

*Jonah 1:1-3*
The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 'Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.' But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.

Jonah received a clear command from God to go to Nineveh, but instead chose to board a ship bound for Tarshish – a flight in the opposite direction.

His journey takes an unexpected turn as a severe storm arises, and he eventually confesses to the crew that he is fleeing from God's command. The sailors reluctantly throw Jonah overboard, and he is swallowed by a great whale.

Jonah's acknowledgement of his disobedience and his repentance caused the Whale to spit him out, so that he's able to fulfil God's initial command.

Are you about to board a flight to nowhere or on one?
