Faith emanates from God's word. Romance 10:17, says, so then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. One of the challenges we face is the loss of the freshness of God's word, likening it to stale food that no longer requires processing in our mouths on its way to our minds. Joshua 1:8 says, this Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
We don't want to be so complacent with God's word that it's no more than a mere cliché in our perception. The word of God we hear, see and store in our hearts must become flesh and dwell amongst men. God’s Word is not intended to be returned to Him in heaven; God does not require its return because He already has with Him the originator of the Word, Jesus Christ. Isaiah 55:11 says so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Key considerations to ensure that God's word remains vibrant and influential in our lives include making it appealing to engage with, translating its teachings into actionable faith, and achieving intended outcomes.
1. Meditate on the Word
Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.
Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
2. Pray in the Holy Spirit and by His Words
Jude 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:26 So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.
Hosea 14:2 Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him, “Take away all iniquity; Receive us graciously, for we will offer the sacrifices of our lips.
James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
3. Exercise your faith
Faith serves as the conduit for the Word. It is essential to have an outlet for the Word, as it can become ineffective if not put to use. The value does not lie in the quantity of one's knowledge of the Word, but rather in the extent to which one can derive faith from it at any given time. Although faith is developed through understanding the Word of God, it is the practice of faith that yields results. Exercising faith requires action, which is integral to its effectiveness.
A larva does not become a butterfly until the transformation is complete. Similarly, the word of God requires translation into faith to be effective. According to Hebrews 11, faith is described as a tangible substance that can be perceived through the senses. Hebrews 11:1 state that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
A man of God once said a man is intelligent by what he knows. A man is wise by what he does. What you believe will reflect how you behave. God sees the word in your heart, but He wants to see you speak it and behave it.
A person is considered intelligent by what they know and wise by what they do. Believes often influence behaviour, demonstrating the principles held within. When individuals act according to their believes, they reflect the values they hold. 2 Cor 4:13 says, and since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak.
Your faith is confirmed by your action. God told Abraham in, Genesis 12:1, to get out of his country, from his family and from his father’s house to a land that I will show you. The centurion, having either witnessed the works of Jesus Christ or heard about them, took the initiative to seek healing for his servant afflicted with leprosy. He requested that Jesus simply speak the Word, without needing to visit his house, believing that this would be sufficient to heal his servant. Consequently, Jesus expressed astonishment and stated that he had not encountered such profound faith, even among the people of Israel. Mathew 8:20.
