One of the greatest investments bequeathed to the church, is the power of His resurrection and the power behind the Cross.

 

Our study today will be centred on Joseph. Joseph lived in the old testament, but like King David, he had a new testament mentality and perspective. Life is all about perspectives.

 

Joseph , saw beyond the resurrection and the asked the people to carry his bones out of Egypt. In fact he made them swear an oath.

 

The oath was to show them the gravity and seriousness of his request.

 

Genesis 50 Vs 24-25.

 

Genesis 50:24 And Joseph said to his brethren, “I am dying; but God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

Genesis 50:25 Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.”.

 

What was Joseph thinking when he made that request? . This got me thinking too years back at Uni.

 

His request was an act of Faith, it was an act of hope, it was built on trust and revelation. 

 

Hebrews 11:22 By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.

 

Moses was bound by that oath, so the first thing he did, after they secured freedom from Egypt was to exhume the bones of Joseph.

 

Exodus 13:19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under solemn oath, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you.”.

 

They carried his bones through the wilderness for 40yrs. What a lesson in commitment, dedication and responsibility. I will like to meet the men that carried those bones in turns.

 

It was Joshua that eventually buried Joseph in the promised land.

 

Joshua 24:32 The bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, they buried at Shechem, in the plot of ground which Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for one hundred pieces of silver, and which had become an inheritance of the children of Joseph.

 

WHY DID JOSEPH ASK FOR HIS BONES TO BE TAKEN OUT OF EGYPT.

 

Joseph saw to the cross and the power of His resurrection. Joseph tapped futuristically into the prophetic word of God.

 

Joseph knew that if his body was left behind in Egypt, it will be embalmed and mumified, and his body would v been left in a museum.

 

Joseph knew that Jesus's resurrection was going to cause saints of old to come out of the graves.

 

Matthew 27:51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,

Matthew 27:52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;

Matthew 27:53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

 

We can't treat this with levity, and restrict this power to just an Easter message. It is a daily thing. We must appropriate this power daily to every area of our lives.

 

Apostle Paul had great understanding of this power, in fact as a Pharisee, he believed in the resurrection.

 

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

 

 

Ephesians 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

Ephesians 1:18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians 1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power

Ephesians 1:20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

Ephesians 1:21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

Ephesians 1:22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,

Ephesians 1:23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

 

Come on brothers, we need to change the narrative, and cause some seismic shift with the Story of His resurrection and the power behind it.

 

Father give me a fresh revelation of the power of Your resurrection.

 

Father help me to invest my time in understanding more of the power behind Your resurrection.

 

Father let this power of Your resurrection be displayed once again in my family, community, city and Nation.

 

Father let the power of Your resurrection bring back to life dead ministries, marriages, talents, gifts , businesses, careers and assignments and callings.

 

Father let the power of Your resurrection cause some seismic shifts in every facet of our Nations.

 

As we conclude, please do not trifle with this message. We can't limit the power of His resurrection to an Easter thing.
