*2 Samuel 4:4, 9:1*
No person, situation, or thing in life is birthed or come into existence without the careful assistance of a midwifery process.
However, there are occasions where people or things have suffered tragedy during this process, hence becoming a casualty of the operation:
Those who were dropped by their midwife
Those who dropped something with that otherwise had an amazing capacity
*‘To be dropped’* means to suffer a freak accident or catastrophe, to experience ill-fortune or destiny-reversal during the process of being midwifed by a person or a situation.
A common informal phrase we also use when an outcome of a process is far less than expected is ‘dropped the ball’ which means to make a mistake or mishandle things.
Destinies, potentials, and prospects have be known to be either enhanced or destroyed in the hands of midwives - people, institutions, or situations.
Indeed there is no self-made man. Everyone is a product of a midwife that may have presented as a parent, a teacher, a mentor, a spiritual leader, a senior colleague etc. On the hand, God may have charged you with the responsibility of midwifing a product, a service, a ministry, a company, an idea, a dream, or a possibility. Potentials abound in both living and non-living entities.
Three lessons we can learn from tale of Mephibosheth
*1. Great Potential*
*2 Samuel 4:4* - “Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son…His name was Mephibosheth.”
Being born into the royal family naturally confers some serious advantages on you in life. In 2013, it was reported that Prince Willian and Kate Middleton were preparing to welcome their first baby, Prince George, into the Royal Family. And while being born into the British Royal Family does not have as many perks as a few centuries ago, (such as unquestioned, sovereign rule over an empire), the new addition would have inherited more than just a title. A list of the royal perks would have included a portfolio of land, property and assets held in a trust; tax exemption from the usual 40 percent inheritance tax on large estates; use of royal palaces such as Buckingham Palace, St. James’ Palace, and Windsor Castle; and stunningly beautiful loaner jewellery - this is a collection of precious jewellery and royal finery amassed through the centuries and known as the Crown Jewels.
The concept of a man’s potential spans both the physical and spiritual dimensions. Paul prays for us in *Ephesians 1:15-21* - “Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; *that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe*, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.”
*2 Samuel 4:4* - “Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened, *as she made haste to flee*, that he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.”
Mephibosheth had the potential to be a prince, and hence heir to the throne of his grandfather Saul (after the execution of Ishbosheth, Saul’s heir to the throne after the death of Jonathan). Due to no fault of his while he was being carried through the valley of the shadow of death to escape to safety and from the threat that decimated his father Jonathan and his grandfather Saul, he was dropped by his nurse. This incident summarily brought an end to Mephibosheth's potential to ever live out his destiny in the royal court.
Some people fall and they get back up again. But the damage sustained when Mephibosheth was dropped by his nurse was irreparable and irreversible. What a tragedy! The nurse was given a midwifery responsibility of caring and guiding Mephibosheth until he was ready for the king’s court, but alas Mephibosheth was dropped and he became lame.
Prayer Points:
*Prayer Point 1*
Father, I obtain the grace to steward the gifts, talents, anointing and potential you have invested in me. Help me to consistently take advantage of Your Presence and help in life.
*2. Great Injury*
What in your life, marriage, career, or ministry had great prospect or potential, but was dropped? What vision, dream, opportunity, destiny were you appointed to midwife but you dropped as you went through the valley?
Are you attempting to midwife your destiny and purpose without God’s Presence?
*Psalm 127:1* - “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”
Without the assurance of God’s Presence, rather than be carried in the valley, a man can be dropped by a midwife. There is an Unseen Force that guides men through the valley. He is the Fourth Man in the fire. Remember, in *Matthew 2:13*, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream telling him to flee to Egypt with Mary and the infant Jesus since King Herod would seek the child to kill him.
*Prayer Point 2*
Father, as I steward what you have committed in my hands, let the Angel of Your Presence bear me up in their arms, so there is no danger of falling. Protect me from accidents and injuries that may affect my progress and manifestation.
*3. Great Restoration*
*2 Samuel 9:3* - “And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the *kindness of God* unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.”
Even though the destiny helper or the one assigned to show you benevolence may indeed have the intent to favour you, he however may still be engrossed with fighting his own battles. You may be required to pray that God will give your destiny helper rest on all side. This is because God blesses men through men.
*2 Samuel 9:7* “And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and *thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.*”
This is *God's restoration protocol*: God will bring into your life people that will show greater instance of kindness than one can ordinarily expect from men. A kindness that will initiate unusual favour, access, and acceptance.
To those who may have been dropped by a midwife or those who dropped the ball, God is still in the business of restoring man: as He has prepared a table before you in the presence of your enemy, adversity, challenges and trauma.
*Prayer Point 3*
Father, may I be positioned to receive the kindness of God for restoration of all that the enemy and situations have stolen from or deprived me. Lead me to that table that you have prepared for me where I may enjoy all that you have apportioned to me IJN.
