Matthew 5:17-20 - “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”
In the timeless words of Matthew 5:17-20, we find a profound message about the continuity and fulfilment of God's law. Jesus, in His wisdom, clarifies that His mission is not to abolish the law but to fulfil it completely. This passage serves as a cornerstone for understanding the concept of divine convergence – the idea that all things, even the seemingly disparate elements of our lives, work together for a higher purpose.
Navigating the Periods of Confusion
Life is rife with seasons of uncertainty, moments when we feel adrift and unsure of our path. We encounter periods of confusion, low motivation, and an equivocal sense of direction. It's during these times that we often feel like our lives are made up of fragmented parts – painful moments, achievements and lessons, disjointed time frames, episodes of acceptance and rejection.
Yet, amidst this chaos, there is a divine order at work. As Romans 8:28 reminds us, "All things work together for good to them that love God, and who have been called according to His purpose." This truth becomes evident when we examine the lives of patriarchs who experienced divine convergence firsthand.
Examples of Divine Convergence in Biblical Patriarchs
1. Joseph: From favoured son to slave, from prisoner to Prime Minister of Egypt, Joseph's journey epitomises the concept of divine convergence. Despite the trials he faced – betrayal by his brothers, false accusations, and imprisonment – every setback ultimately propelled him towards his destiny. His ability to interpret dreams and his unwavering faith in God led to his eventual exaltation and reconciliation with his family.
2. Moses: A prince turned shepherd, then deliverer. Moses' life took a dramatic turn when he was called to lead the Israelites out of bondage. His exile and subsequent encounter with God prepared him for the monumental task ahead. Despite his initial reluctance and self-doubt, Moses embraced his calling and became one of the greatest leaders in biblical history.
3. *Paul: From persecutor to apostle. Paul's transformation is a testament to the power of divine convergence. His misguided zeal for God was redirected into a fervent passion for spreading the gospel. Despite facing persecution, imprisonment, and numerous hardships, Paul remained steadfast in his faith. His writings, inspired by the Holy Spirit, continue to inspire and guide believers to this day.
