In a world marked by uncertainty and adversity, the promises of God stand as beacons of hope and strength for His people. Through Scripture, we are reminded of God's unwavering presence, protection, and provision in every circumstance.
Let's look through Exodus 14:14, 2 Chronicles 20:17 and Psalm 91.
1. God Fights for His People:
Exodus 14:14: The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
In this verse, we find the Israelites standing on the shores of the Red Sea, pursued by the Egyptian army. In this moment of fear and uncertainty, Moses delivers a powerful message of hope and assurance: "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." This verse serves as a reminder that ultimate victory comes from God's intervention, not our own strength or efforts. When we entrust our battles to God, He goes before us, leading us to triumph over our adversaries.
2. Stand Firm and Trust in God:
2 Chronicles 20:17: You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’”
In 2 Chronicles 20:17, King Jehoshaphat faced an imminent threat of invasion from enemy forces. In uncertainty, God spoke words of encouragement through the prophet Jahaziel, assuring Jehoshaphat that the battle belongs to the Lord. Just as God delivered Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah, He remains faithful to deliver His people today.
3. Dwelling in God’s Shelter:
Psalm 91:1: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty
This verse invites us to find refuge and security in the shelter of the Most High and to abide in the shadow of the Almighty. Here, the psalmist paints a vivid picture of God as a protective fortress, offering solace and security to those who seek His presence. This verse challenges us to cultivate a deep, abiding relationship with God, finding peace and protection in His sovereign care.
A "shelter" provides safety from a storm or enemy. The term "Most High" comes for the Hebrew el'yon' and specifically implies something "upper," "above," or "highest." The implication is that God is superior to all other powers and supreme above any other deity. There is no safer shelter than what the Most High provides!
The psalmist refers to the "shadow" of God. A shadow in itself provides little protection, itself. The imagery, however, is of someone who is close enough, and protected enough, that the shadow of their protector is on them. Further, the psalmist will "abide" there, implying a committed, consistent closeness with the Lord.
As we journey further into Psalm 91, we encounter verses 14-16, which resound with God's faithfulness and provision for His people. Here, God responds to the trust and devotion of His children, promising to answer their prayers, deliver them from trouble, and honour them with abundant blessings. These verses serve as a testament to God's attentive care and unwavering love for His people, assuring us of His steadfast presence and provision in every season of life.
WE WIN not because of our own power and ability! We win because we dwell in the presence of the All mighty, we abide in him, taking our positions and remaining still as he fights his battle on our behalf – watching him as he delivers his victory – we win when we remain in him! Amen!
