DOMINION BY DESIGN Part XII - DOMINION STARTS WITH DESIRE.
Content:
A. Genesis 3:6 - “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate.”
B. Genesis 3:16 - “To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”
C. Genesis 4:7 - “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
> What you pursue controls you.
1. God’s design is that you have dominion.
2. Satan suggests that ‘The end justifies the means’ hence offers a compromised pathway.
3. The cost of Satan’s pathway is the forfeiture of one’s soul. (Mark 8:36-37 - “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”).
- If you are Adam (Genesis 3), Satan through Eve will tempt you to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil to “be like God.”
- ā If you are Abraham (Genesis 16), Satan through Sarah will suggest you sleep with Hagar to have the child of promise.
- ā If you are Moses (Exodus 2), Satan will deceive you that you can rely on your own strength to deliver God’s people and carry out His mandate.
- ā If you are David (2Samuel 11), Satan will convince you it is okay to sleep with Bathsheba, orchestrate the death of her husband, Uriah, and continue to reign, maintain influence, and have dominion.
D. Romans 8:5 - “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”
The Pathway To Being Led
- Set your mind on either carnal or spiritual desires.
- Pursue those desires.
- Be controlled by what you pursue.
> Desires that aren’t kept in check by the Holy Spirit are like a loaded weapon in Satan’s hands. It is through these unchecked longings that man is most vulnerable to deception and spiritual downfall.
E. Psalm 37:4 - “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
The mind dominated by the flesh leads to death, while the mind governed by the Holy Spirit results in life and peace.
F. . James 2:26 - “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.”
Prayer Pointš„
Transformation through the Holy Spirit
Lord, renew my mind through the leading of Your Holy Spirit. Transform my heart and redirect my desires toward Your purpose. Help me not only to have faith but to act in alignment with that faith, demonstrating obedience in all that I do. Amen.
The Renewal of the Mind
Allowing the Holy Spirit to lead our thoughts transforms and renews our mind. This renewal redirects our desires toward spiritual matters—those that are above, aligning us with divine purposes.
> Hostility to God emerges when we resist the Holy Spirit's influence, manifesting as disobedience or refusal to submit to His guidance (Hebrews 8:7).
Prayer Pointš„
Surrender to God’s Leadership
Lord, may I not resist the prompting of Your Holy Spirit. Teach me to surrender fully to Your guidance and remove any hostility in my heart that causes disobedience or refusal to follow Your direction. Amen.
David’s Example of Spiritual Pursuit
G. Psalm 27:4 - “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.”
> To be led by the Holy Spirit, one must actively pursue a relationship with God.
Essential Spiritual Faculties for Divine Guidance
1. The eyes of your heart: To perceive and appreciate the beauty of the Lord.
2. Your ears: To attentively listen for God's response to your inquiries.
The journey of being led by the Holy Spirit involves a continual focus on seeking God, allowing His presence to guide your thoughts, desires, and actions.
Prayer Pointš„
Pursuing God’s Presence
Father, my greatest desire is to dwell in Your presence all the days of my life. Open the eyes of my heart to see Your beauty and incline my ears to hear Your voice. Lead me as I seek to know You more deeply and walk in Your ways. Amen.
In conclusion,
> True dominion can only be exercised through a life that is governed by the Holy Spirit. It is through His guidance and empowerment that we are able to rise above earthly limitations and live in the fullness of our divine purpose.
