Topic: The Spirit of God

 

 

Genesis 1:1-3

1 In the beginning God (Elohim) CREATED [by forming from nothing] the heavens and the earth. ² The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. ³ And God said,  “Let there be light”; and there was light.

 

 

Genesis 1:26-27

²⁶ Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.” ²⁷ So God CREATED man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.

 

Even the work of creation was useless without the Spirit of God. So also it is when a man wants to live life without the spirit of God – it will only lead to chaos and a deep feel of emptiness.

 

Genesis 2:7

⁷ then the Lord God formed [that is, created the body of] man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being [an individual complete in body and spirit].

 

In as much as a man cannot continue to leave without having breath in his lungs, so also is a man is irrelevant without the Spirit of God. Just like the earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep – so exactly is a man without the Spirit of God.

 

Psalm 82:6

I said, “You are gods;
Indeed, all of you are sons of the Most High.

 

 

Isn’t it amazing how man all of a sudden believes he can operate without God. The fundamental work of creation has made it significantly clear that the only way to take dominion is to operate like God.

 

The model God has used from the beginning to call things into existence and put life into his creations has been with the partnering  of His Spirit. The spirit of God upon anyone signifies the presence of God

 

 

God spoke every work of creation into existence except for man.

 

God is his awesomeness created man and breathe the breath of life into him – this signifies that God practically put HIS BEING into man.

 

The only way a man can navigate his God ordained destiny is to have the Spirit of God.

 

***How about we take a moment to yield ourselves to the Holy spirit***

 

Luke 1:35

³⁴ Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin and have no intimacy with any man?” ³⁵ Then the angel replied to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a cloud]; for that reason the holy (pure, sinless) Child shall be called the Son of God.

 

***Invite the Holy Spirit and the power of the most high to overshadow you to navigate seemingly impossible situation in your God ordained journey.***

 

 

Matthew 3:16-17

¹⁶ After Jesus was baptized, He came up immediately out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he (John) saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him (Jesus), ¹⁷ and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased and delighted!”

 

 

Despite the fact that the birth of Jesus was instigated by the Holy ghost and the Power of the highest, Jesus did not embark into ministry until there was a confirmation of the Spirit of God being upon him.

 

Matthew 4:1

 Then Jesus was led by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

 

 

Immediately the Spirit of God came upon Jesus after he was baptised, the Spirit of God led him into the wilderness. This call for deep thought because you will think that after this experience, why would Jesus be allowed to be tempted by the devil.

 

This does not stipulate that the devil will leave you alone – in fact it is a mark that the devil will come for you. However it is guaranteed that you will win as long as you operate like the god that you are.

 

***The presence of challenges / situations we don’t understand does not mean God is not with us, it is meant to serve a bigger purpose that sometimes only God knows about and we are to keep trusting him.***

 

 

The enemy understands this fundamentals and as he did in the time of old to deceive Eve, the modus operandi has never changed –

DISTRACTION from what you have to DECEPTION to make you believe you don’t have it!!!

 

Is it not amazing that the first thing Jesus was tempted with was food, followed by position and power

 

Jesus overcame these temptations by proclaiming the written word of God. Being able to overcome this temptation is a replica of how Jesus was able to restrain himself while ensuring suffering and shame of the cross.

 

 

Acts 1: 8

But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”

 

As men, we need to tarry for the spirit of God before we embark on the journey of destiny.

 

Just like a product will deliver the best result to you if you follow the Manufacturer’s instructions so also are we to follow the blue print of God.

 

Ensure to wait for the Holy Spirit in all things even in that wilderness situation!!!!

 

This will help us to withstand the challenges that sometimes come our way to our God ordained destiny.

 

Just as Jesus went through the cross, the disciples of course carried out outstanding things for God but they also went through some very tough challenges.

 

The manufacturer’s instruction for life is to WAIT for the Holy Spirit:

Acts 1:4-5

While being together and eating with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Of which,” He said, “you have heard Me speak. ⁵ For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized and empowered and united with the Holy Spirit, not long from now.”

 

 

This is the operating procedure of our God – we are created in his likeness, therefore our destined journey is better if we operate in the same sequence.

 

This spurs us to trust and draw strength from God when challenges arise, especially when we are fully aware that we are in his will.

 

John 15:5

⁵  I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.
